This is a wonderful investigation exploring the two types of ways plants transport water. Students will model how vascular and nonvascular plants transport water. The investigation will help them understand how water gets to the top of a tall tree and spreads in nonvascular plants like moss. Students will follow the scientific method to answer the question:
Does the type of paper affect the distance water will travel?
Students will create a hypothesis, record observations, learn how to measure and graph, and relate their results to plants. It sounds like a lot, but it is all done at their grade level.
