This pack includes two fun hands-on activities with multiple options for difficulty for learning and categorizing the instruments of the orchestra. Please see below for a description. If you would like to see more real and digital photos of this product, click here
The entire activity is done in black and white so you can encourage coloring as a possible reward, and most of all-to save ink.
A follow-along sorting paper is included so all students can be working on something, should you choose to save paper by having students work in groups.
Activity #1- Build a Treasure Chest and fill it with Treasure! Students will cut out pieces to assemble a treasure chest (paste or tape is needed). After the pages are assembled, you will have a chest that actually opens out from the paper! Students will then cut out instrument pieces and place them in the correct chests, treating them as they are treasure”.
For this activity, there are two types of instrument pages included- all instruments are named, but some are assorted randomly, then there is an option where they are already arranged by families.
Activity #2- Sort the Treasure! There are boxes on each paper-one paper per family. There are two options for these: Blank boxes, and boxes with instrument names. There are two options for instrument cut outs- Instruments alone and Instruments with labels. Students will cut out the instruments and place them on the correct sheets. You can check them, having students paste or tape into place, and then color as a reward. However, you can do it any way you wish!
This activity was created as a supplement to my Shiver-Me-Timbres Interactive Game
. However, you can use this fun resource by itself as well! It’s a purely digital file that you can use on SMARTboards, regular projector/screens, iPads/iPhones and other electronic devices. Check it out!
