Template Description and Instructions

The game was designed on Microsoft Office 2016 PowerPoint and depending on your software, may or may not work on a MAC. It should however, work on all PC compatible software even if you have a different version of Office. If you have trouble opening this template on a different version, let us know. We will try to send you a version compatible copy.

Before you open this game save the original template in a save place. Never alter it in any way. Make a second copy of the template with a different title before you open it and make any changes.

The Treasure Hunt template has a total of forty-seven slides. Slide one is the introductory slide. Replace the word “Topic” at the top with the title of your game.

The game instructions are on slide two.

Slides three through ten are the “Pirate Map Slides”. Do not edit or move anything on these slides. If you do the game will not function properly.

Slide eleven is the spinning wheel slide. Do not edit or move anything on this slide or it will not function properly.

Slides twelve through forty-one are the thirty “Treasure Clue” or multiple-choice question slides. Paste or type in your question over the “/” symbol. There are three answer options, “a”, “b”, and “c”. Two of them are the incorrect answers. The correct answer must be pasted or typed next to the letter with an additional “c” for correct. Make sure to delete the additional letter “c” after putting in your answer. Each of the answer options is linked to either the “go dig” slide (the correct answer) or the “wait for another clue” slide (the incorrect answer) so the answer order is very important!

Slides 42 & 44 appear to be blank. They are links to the following slides. They are there for formatting reasons and must not be moved, removed or edited in any way.

There is a link to the final celebration slide on each of the map boards. Do not make any alterations to this slide either.

In a nutshell, all you have to do is paste in your title on the first slide then paste in your questions and answers on the appropriate slides. Leave the other slides alone and all should function perfectly well.

Treasure Hunt Game


This game has eight slides with pirate map boards that have six treasure chests in different places so you can play with up to eight individual players or eight teams. You can also play with the same players eight times to keep them guessing where the chests are. The map board slides have menus with links to thirty treasure clues (multiple-choice questions). The game also includes an introductory slide with the topic, an instruction slide, thirty treasure clue question slides, a wait for another clue slide (incorrect answer), a go dig slide (a correct answer), a spinner slide, and a victory celebration slide for a total of forty-four slides. All of the slides have different sounds triggered by a button or transition to the slide.

How to Play:

If you play with teams, each team must select a team captain that will call out coordinate selections and give answers for the group. With each turn the captain can be rotated to keep all players involved.

Each board slide has a menu with links to the thirty treasure clues or multiple-choice questions. The questions correspond to the intersecting coordinate squares on the treasure map below. Clicking on one of the menu boxes will take players to the corresponding clue or question. Teachers can direct players to either choose their own coordinate or click on the spinner button and let the wheel decide which clue they are directed to. Using the spinner adds an extra element of suspense to the game.

Players will take turns answering clue questions once they have a coordinate. If the correct answer is given, the player is automatically directed to the go dig slide. If the wrong answer is given, they are directed to the wait for another clue slide. This takes out any guesswork as to whether the answer is correct or incorrect. With correct answers players can move to another player’s/team’s board to attempt a dig. With incorrect answers players/teams relinquish control to the next player/team.

Every game slide has buttons to go to all eight boards. This allows players to move back and forth to any board easily.

If a player/team gets the first correct answer to a treasure clue, they click on the icon for the board they want, then click on the coordinate or the intersecting square in the bottom box that matches the clue question they answered correctly. The square will disappear and reveal either a shovel, a miss, or a treasure chest, a hit. If the coordinate square selection is a miss, play passes to the next player/team. If the selection is a hit the player/team gets another turn. Play continues until the current player/team gets a miss.

If an incorrect answer is given play automatically passes to the next player/team. The next player/team has the option to answer the previous question or get a new target. This means that all target questions are in play for the entire game.

If the second player/team chooses the first target and answers correctly that player/team may advance to the treasure map of any other player/team. If the coordinating box has already been uncovered the player/team loses their turn. Play continues as above until all of the treasure chests have been uncovered on one of player’s/team’s boards.

There are a couple of ways to score the game and determine a winner. The easiest way is when a player/team uncovers the last ship on another player’s/team’s box they become the winner. The second option requires the teacher to print a blank pirate map slide and to write the names of the players/teams over the blank coordinate squares when chests are uncovered. This would be done to have a total at the end of the game. Play would continue until all of the chests had been uncovered. The winner would be the player/team that had uncovered the most chests. A pirate map slide can also be printed out for players/teams so that they can keep track of their discoveries. If a printer is not available, the teacher and players can draw the grid on a piece of paper.

Regardless of the scoring method, the winning player/team gets to click on the “Victory Celebration” icon on the on the lower right-hand part of the board to celebrate!
