Treasure Island, Part One, Chapters 1-6.
Students are given a prompt and are to find the sentence in the chapter that corresponds to the prompt. Takes reading comprehension to a new level--well beyond recall. Most prompts begin with "Find the sentence that..." Answer key for easy grading is provided.
Includes elements of fiction such as point-of-view narration, similes, foreshadowing, sarcasm, allusion and paradox. Students practice correct usage of single and double quotation marks.
Assignment can be easily adapted to additional common core standards, where students can also explain the effectiveness of certain elements of fiction within a prompt, while using the quoted sentence as evidence from the text to support the answer.
