Use this fun game to help your students' phonic skills. I bought some cheap 'pirate treasure' coins at the 2 dollar and the kids love playing this game with them.
In this game students each get 6 coins to put onto their treasure map. A teacher/student reads out a word and the students need to place a coin into a treasure chest for every sound they can hear. Once they have discovered how many sounds are in the word they can have a go at writing it underneath.
I have the game laminated and students write on it with whiteboard markers or the thick crayola textas (so easy to rub off!).
I like to use the word cards from the website for this game. I might focus on the sound/diagraph we are learning or mix them up for revision.
My pre's love this game and are using it to correctly spell words like mushroom: m-u-sh-r-oo-m and splash: s-p-l-a-sh
Getting to move the coins and see how many pieces of 'treasure' are in the words really motivates my kiddies and they love the words that fill all the treasure chests!
