Here are Common Core Integrated Activities for Unit 5.

Olivia:
Art Fact Sheet for "Two Dancers on Stage" by Edgar Degas
Art Fact Sheet for "Autumn Rhythm" Number 30 by Jackson Pollock
Observations of the two paintings using language that appeal to senses and feelings (photos included)
Observing and recording Olivia's moods and feelings from one or more books (two organizers included)
Writing an original Olivia story (story planner/organizer, booklet and rubric included)

The Kite with Frog and Toad:
Character comparison between Frog and Toad (organizer included)
Writing an original Frog and Toad story in a new setting (story planner/organizer, booklet, and rubric included)

Kids' Inventions:
Invention Sort (was in Unit 4 and re-inserted in this unit)
Collect recyclables to use to make a model of an original invention ("Good Stuff" list included from the last unit)
Build an Invention (included are a pre-invention plan, a page for illustrating, labeling and listing materials they plan to use, a justification and explanation page, and a rubric)

Whistle for Willie:
The students will compare an Ezra Jack Keats character from one book to another or two characters within the same book or between two or more books. (two character study organizers are included)

A Fruit Is a Suitcase for Seeds:
The students will bring and sample various kinds of fruits in class and use their senses to write a collection of interesting words that appeal to their senses (organizer included)
They will then write a poem using the words they have collected. (page for writing poem included)
The students will write an opinion piece on a fruit based on a pre-determined premise (included are a plan with the premise, an opinion/argument writing page, and a rubric)
