PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Use this activity in conjunction with a novel study or as a creative writing activity in isolation.

Students will analyze the use of trees as metaphors for self in "Four Skinny Trees" by Sandra Cisneros, *The Bell Jar* by Sylvia Plath, *Beloved* by Toni Morrison, and *Their Eyes Were Watching God* by Zora Neale Hurston. They will then create a tree metaphor for themselves and provide a graphic representation of the tree.

This activity lends itself to an oral presentation or gallery walk.
