Topic: Tree Treasures ------ Make Your Own Paper!

Leaders: It is RECOMMENDED that you have two or three adult leaders for this activity. One for "Tree Treasures" and one or two for papermaking. The group will be divided in half, each will do an activity for 30 minutes, then switch.

Purpose: To teach students that trees are the source of many products and that used paper can be reused to "make your own" paper.

Location: Indoors - an electrical outlet and water are needed.

Activities: "Tree Treasures" - 30 minutes
to present some unusual uses of trees
to tell the story of the history of papermaking
brainstorm some uses of paper
Paper making - 30 minutes
discuss importance of paper re-cycling
make paper

Materials to be found in the bin:
• screen frames
• blender
• "pulp"
• strainer
• plastic basins
• rags
• towels and sheets
• dried flowers, spices, colored thread, glitter, etc.
