Here is a sweet Halloween themed book craftivity to capture your students' interest and enhance their reading comprehension! This is my students favorite Halloween themed book activity! They also look super cute hanging up for fall parties.
*Trick-or-Treating for the Main Idea
Read a nonfiction story to the class (Examples: bats, pumpkins, spiders, etc.) or have students choose their own nonfiction book to read independently. After reading the story, students will record the main topic on the back of the trick-or-treat bag. Students will then write the main idea and 3 details about the story on the candy pieces. Next, students will color and decorate the trick-or-treat bag and candy pieces. Students will then cut out the bag and candy pieces. Students may need help cutting out the center white piece below the handle of the bag. Once all pieces are cut out, have them glue the sides and bottom of the bag (leave the top of the bag unglued so you can insert your candy pieces.) Candy pieces include main idea and three details.
*Trick-or-Treating for Story Elements
Read a Halloween themed fiction story to the class or have students choose their own book to read independently. After reading the story, choose which candy pieces you want your students to use. Then have them fill out the information, color, and cut out the pieces. Once all pieces are cut out, have them glue the sides and bottom of the bag (leave the top of the bag unglued so you can insert your candy pieces.) Candy pieces include characters, setting, problem, solution, beginning, middle, end, and a blank candy.
