Using this resource from The Curious Classroom, your students will match numbers, ten frames, and base ten blocks for numbers 10 to 19. I use this resource both whole group and in math centers.
My students match each number to the corresponding ten frame and base ten block cards in a pocket chart. Once all cards are matched, one student gets to "steal" a card while the rest close their eyes. One at a time, the students try to figure out which is missing (ten in a ten frame, 14 with base ten blocks, etc.).
Using ten frames helps my students to understand teen numbers as a full ten frame and some extras. I created this resource to help my students connect familiar ten frames with tricky base ten blocks with teen numbers.
