The purpose of this file is to develop the skill in finding trig values in all 4 quadrants without a calculator for:

1. Sine

2. Cosine

3. Tangent

4. Secant

5. Cosecant

6. Cotangent

These assignments are done in degrees

Included in this zip folder are 11 Power Point files. 6 are assignments, 4 are intros to material and 1 is an accompanying page for notes. A brief description of each:

Intro #1 is a 25 slide file. The emphasis is identifying and developing rules for rotated and related angles. The student should infer the difference in right triangle trigonometry and rotational trigonometry.

Intro #2 is a 42 slide file over the reference figures. The 30-60-90 right triangle, the 45-45-90 right triangle and the unit circle are discussed and demonstrated how they are derived form the basic shapes of a square, equilateral triangle and a unit circle.

Intro #3 is a 48 slide intro to the signs of trig functions in the 4 quadrants of the plane. The phrase "All Students Take Calculus" is used as the memory aid during the instruction.

Intro #4 is a 41 slide file over the unit circle values in trigonometry. A page for notes is included for the students to follow along.

Assignment #1 is a 15 question short answer assignment. The emphasis is finding a related angle given a rotation. The rotations are on the interval [0,360) and are simple enough that no calculator is needed. It is on 1 page for easy printing.

Assignment #2 is a 15 question short answer assignment. The emphasis is finding a rotated angle given a related angle on the interval [0,360). The numbers are simple enough that no calculator is needed. It is on 1 page for easy printing.

Assignment #3 is a 20 question matching assignment. The student identifies the proper figure that matches a rotation. For instance, a rotation of 210 degrees matches a 30-60-90 right triangle in the 3rd quadrant with a related angle of 30 degrees. It is on 1 page for easy printing.

Assignment #4 is a 20 question multiple choice assignment. The emphasis is identifying properly drawn reference figures on and off the x,y coordinate plane. It is on 1 page for easy printing. This can also be used at socrative.com if you desire.
