Use this hands-on cooperative learning activity to get students thinking hard about the logical reasoning behind verifying identities.
This sorting activity includes four completely worked two-column proofs as well as suggested instructions for the activity.
Use these proofs as examples of step-by-step reasoning, ask students match the logical reasons for each step, or ask students to match the steps of the proof AND the logical reasons. There are many different ways to use this activity to fit the needs of your students.
Knowledge required for this activity includes all of the fundamental identities: reciprocal, quotient, and Pythagorean.
