Replace flashcards with a more effective study method. Research shows (and teachers know!) that students learn material more effectively when they make connections that help them recall information. This triple-layer foldable study tool makes it easy for students to remember information because unlike two-sided flashcards, it gives them a chance to see a "hint" first.
Students can follow the step-by-step directions with picture diagrams to create a study tool with up to ten facts, vocab terms, or concepts. They look at a picture or question on the top flap first, then open it up to see a hint if they need it before finally seeing the answer. Students like to trade and try to guess each other's hints, too!
I use this with middle school special ed and ELL students, but it could work for 3rd through 8th grade students in any subject. My students like to do these on their own for homework, or they are a great activity for speedy workers.
