I've used these resources as background before starting The Odyssey. Included you will find various resources from study guides, background info, review games (BINGO), tests, journals, persuasive writing paragraph assignments, and more. There is a Powerpoint called "Family Drama" which covers Agamemnon's homecoming. I use that specifically because it plays a large role in the beginning of The Odyssey. I also included a file of a few non-fiction pieces that I've used with my honors students as well as a folder with a copy of Euripides' Trojan Women with a study guide. I used that as an extra credit assignment in the past; the kids find the story fascinating.
The material is based on the information from Edith Hamilton's Mythology; however, I included a document called "Troy Student Notes" - which is a 3 page summary of the main points of the Trojan War saga. I usually end up telling the story verbally, and then giving them the notes to review afterwards.
When possible, I've included both pdf and word document files.
Please note that I teach on a block schedule. Non-block schedules may take longer than a week.
My students love this unit. I hope you will find some, if not all, of it useful as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for looking!
