Product Description

Make Teaching Band Scales Fun, Fast, and Effective:

All band directors know the pain caused by teaching beginners through high school band students their required scale material. While we know the importance of this skill set, we are sometimes faced with whether to bother teaching the Db major scale.

Memorized Scales Made Easy.

With our unique fold-able scale sheet design, you and your students can quickly reference the fingerings for each one octave scale for practice. Simply fold the sheet up to practice the scales from memory. In my experience, it is often the clumsy and inconvenient to pass out a sheet with all the required scale, then have the students use cluttered and confusing fingering charts to look up the notes and fingerings.

Suggested Use:

Depending on your teaching situation, plan to use one to two scale sheets per week. Here is a sample of how we plan out our scale introduction:

  • Monday: Pass out C/G major scale sheets. Have student fill in note names and fingerings in the middle section using band director provided fingering charts. Also complete the Key signature information on the bottom 1/3 of the sheet (I have found that having the students physically write in the notes and fingerings at the beginning helps make a stronger connections verses just looking at the fingering charts).
  • Tuesday:Play both scales, in whole notes, ascending/descending while looking at fingering pictures.
  • Wednesday: Play both scales at least two times, in half notes while looking at fingerings.
  • Thursday: Play both scales at least twice, once looking and then not looking at the fingering pictures
  • Friday: Look at fingering pictures before playing the scales at least twice from memory.

This scale ninja pack is part of the FULL BAND SCALE NINJA BUNDLE. Save $20 on the full band set.
