Showing movies to accompany literary units is a great way to reward students and also to show them that text doesn’t have to be written. There is a richness in film that students should be aware of. Troy, directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Brad Pitt and Eric Bana, is an amazing film to use in the classroom. This Video Viewing Guide keeps students paying attention and also helps them to do some critical analysis of the film as they would do in a text. The guide includes both simple observation/recall type questions as well as questions that require more critical thinking. Questions are in chronological order so that students can answer as they watch the action. Close reading questions are in italics and require more student thought and insight into characters and events. Students will generally need more time to answer these types of questions. The guide contains a total of 55 questions. An answer key is included.
THIS GUIDE IS NOT DESIGNED TO REPLACE A READING OF THE TEXT.
