Picture books are a great resource for introducing writing topics. The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, by Jon Scieszka, is one of my favorites to use for persuasive writing.
What if A. Wolf is innocent and only wanted a "...cup of sugar for his Granny's birthday cake?" Now your students can decide based on the evidence (text) if they believe the wolf is innocent or guilty. They design a Wanted or Free poster using text evidence to support their argument.
