This 13-page literatue study is jammed-packed with lots of great graphic organizers and questions to help integrate science and reading. The book Tsunamis and Other Natural Disasters is the nonfiction compaion to High Tide in Hawaii, but it can be read alone. This can be done as whole-group or in your reading groups. Many of the questions are fill-in-the-blank style that have worked very well for my students, in that it makes them read the text carefully for those important key words. Other skills include main idea and supporitng details, sequencing, vocabulary, illustrating and labeling, cause and effect, summarizing, and compare and contrast. If your class is studying natural disasters, then this is the tool to not only help them understand the content, but increase their reading of nonfiction.
