Every clue in this unique crossword is a simile from TUCK EVERLASTING. A key word in each clue has been left out, so students must use their knowledge of the story, their critical thinking skills, and maybe most importantly, their imaginations to fill in the blank! For some of the more difficult clues, I have provided hints.
HERE ARE THREE EXAMPLES OF CLUES:
Among the trees, it was as if they had slipped in under a ___ colander. (Hint: A colander is a bowl with holes in it.) (Answer: giant)
Tuck’s expression made Winnie feel like an unexpected ___. (Hint: How do the Tucks feel about suddenly having a child in their home?) (Answer: present)
The toad looked more like a ___ than a living creature sitting there. (Hint: Think of something that might be big and round like a toad.) (Answer: mushroom)
