4. Current Events of the 1990s Paragraph Research and Writing Assignment (with rubric): A memoir is full of short references to people and events from the time in which it was written. Tuesdays with Morrie is full of references to the O. J. Simpson trial, Ted Koppel, and Princess Diana. The assignment calls for informal research paragraph to be thoroughly researched, summarized and shared with the class in order to enhance understanding of Tuesdays with Morrie and to improve the researching skills of students.

5. My Mentor essay (with rubric): A personal essay of 5 paragraphs on the subject of the mentor who has affected his or her life. Students should be encouraged to save and revise this essay as necessary for college admissions and college scholarship opportunities.

Materials Needed

Other than the contents of this unit plan, all you need for the Tuesdays with Morrie unit is enough copies of the book for your class, a copy of the audiobook (if desired) and a copy of the 1999 made-for-television film (if desired). This product does not contain the audiobook or the film.
