The final project! Can kids combine all the skills they have learned from the 12 units into 1 final culminating activity? This unit is designed to see if they can take a word problem and design an entire GUI program by themselves. This unit combines all of Turing's functions, structures as well as program design into a 3 week project. There are 36 different problems in this unit arranged in order of difficulty from easy to extremely hard with five problems focused on music for those music majors in your class. Each student receives their own two page plan - carefully selected by the teacher based on their knowledge of their ability (differentiated instruction). A lesson is provided to demonstrate how to plan a full program. Everything is included: student handouts, plan exemplar, a code exemplar and a detailed lesson plan.
Turing is a programming language that was written with high schools in mind which makes it ideal as a first language. This unit is the last of twelve.
The student handouts will require photocopying but that is all!
This unit includes:
This unit has EDITABLE DUE DATES!
This unit can also be purchased as five separate resources:
This bundle includes Turing units 1 through 12.
This bundle includes units 1 to 12 with 3 different versions of the following:
This is ideal for classrooms where the seating is tight. There are three different versions of student handouts for these units. This includes the culminating activity! The versions would be given consecutively around the room so that students sitting together would each get something slightly different. This way students have different examples of the same exercise so they can work together to determine how something works. It also minimizes the amount of copying within the class.
