Students will use their fingers to practice visually representing and writing subtraction equations within 10. Students will roll a 6-sided die and write the number in the first blank of the 2nd paper. Students will place their hands on the "turkey hands" handout, showing the same number of fingers as the first number in their equation (10, 9, 8, 7, or 6). Students "take-away" (fold under) the same number of fingers as the number they rolled and wrote in the first blank. Students count the number of fingers left and write the answer in the second blank. "Turkey hand" fingers are numbered to help students who need it.
Laminate or place this handout in page protectors and use a dry erase marker to let students practice over and over. Perfect subtraction activity to use near Thanksgiving!
