These turkeys are great for helping students identify how key details add to a main idea. Also, in the end, they have a really cute turkey. To make the turkeys, copy the pages off on the colors listed at the bottom of each page. Then, each student gets a turkey body with a main idea, a beak, and a wattle. Then, I have my students work in partners. Each partner gets a different colored page of feathers. Be sure each partner also has a different main idea. Then, they each cut out their feathers and work together to decide which details go with which main idea. Finally, they construct their turkeys putting the feathers on the turkey that has the matching main idea and fill in with the blank orange feathers to provide a more colorful turkey tail.
