This activity is super fun, to be used sometime around thanksgiving! I created it to review algebra 1 concepts we have done in MY room from start until end of Nov. It is a word document for your editing.
Concepts include: function notation (finding input from output, and output from input), easy fractions, two step equations, finding slope from a table, and solving shape equation puzzles.
How it works: group your students into groups of 6 (that is ideal...if you don't have exactly 30 or 36 students, then put a smarter kiddo in a group of 4 or 5, and give them extra turkeys to solve). Each person in a group gets a numbered turkey (So person 1 has Turkey 1, person 2 has turkey 2, person 3 has turkey 3, person 4 has turkey -1/2, person 5 has turkey -4, and person 6 has turkey 0). Then they solve all the wings on their turkey. One of the wings will give a solution that matches their turkey number, and the others will have a solution that matches a different turkey number. All students solve their wings, and then collect all 5 missing wings, so that all wings are problems with solutions that match their turkey. You will need scissors and glue: so students can cut out wings and exchange them, and glue to glue down completed turkeys with their matching wings. If time, let them color!
This activity doesn't require cutting or any pre planning on your part. Answer key included, but is super light: if you can't read it, let me know and I can try to email you a copy. If you choose to edit, make sure you give problems only with solutions that match your turkeys!
