Help find the Turkeys! This Reverse Interactive Book will help young students build expressive and receptive language. Students can identify common pictures and words found on a farm (farmer, turkey, chicken, barn, scarecrow, cat, kitten, tractor, pumpkin, hay, horse, wheelbarrow, sheep, leaves, rake, cow, pail, dog, fence, rabbit, apples, corn, pig ), prepositions (on), work on sentence formulation, and following directions. This product can be used for students who have special education goals of identifying common objects and following directions.
Directions: The teacher will tell the student that the turkeys have escaped. The student must help Farmer Joe find his turkeys and put them back in the barn. The page with the barn will be presented to the student. The students will be finding a turkey on each page while reading/repeating the sentences beginning with the words “I found.” Students will be taking the turkeys out of the book and putting them on the barn. The student will collect all of the turkeys. The teacher may ask the student to reread each sentence using the words and pictures to decode. Once the students have put all the turkeys back in the barn, students will work on retelling by answering how many turkeys they found and where they found them.
To Make: Laminate each page of the book (pg. 3-15). Use binder rings to put the pages together. Cut out and laminate each individual turkey (pg.16) and place velcro on the back. Velcro each page of the book following the direction on each page. Place the turkeys on each page before beginning with the student. After laminating the barn, put 9 pieces of velcro on or around the barn for the students to place the turkeys.
