In this fun, quick 3-digit subtraction practice activity, students will solve 5 problems and complete a scavenger hunt to answer a Thanksgiving-themed riddle.
-Download a QR reader to your smart device(s).
-Print & cut 1 copy of the scavenger hunt cards (card stock & lamination recommended) and tape/hang them around the room.
-Print 1 recording sheet per student/pair/group & distribute.
-Find the “START” card and scan the QR code to reveal the first question. Write the problem in box #1 and solve it; write the letter instructed in the turkey box for #1, also. Then, write the answer to #1 on the line in box #2, and look for the scavenger hunt card that has the answer and scan the QR code below it.
-A new problem will appear. Write the problem in box #2, as well as the letter instructed in the turkey box. Solve the problem, and write the answer on the line in box #3. Continue this method until the last card is reached.
-Each time a QR code is scanned, a new equation will appear, as well as an instruction to write a letter in that number’s turkey box. The equation should be written in the next box.
-The QR code on the last card will say, “Congratulations! You’ve finished the Turkey Trot Scavenger Hunt!”
-Once they complete the scavenger hunt, students should complete the riddle at the bottom of the recording sheet using the letters in the turkey boxes.
We hope your students enjoy this activity! Please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org should you have any questions. Happy Thanksgiving! :)
