This resource is filled with a variety of speech and language therapy targets to correspond to the the book "Turkey Trouble" by Wendi Silvano.
Board game: page 3
Story mat: page 4 - Navigate the story with this mat. Great for sequencing and retelling.
Vocabulary cards: pages 5-6 - Use these cards to pre-teach vocabulary from the story, for sequencing, or as answer choices for questions.
Comprehension Questions: pages 6-8 – Nineteen questions to assess comprehension.
Categories: pages 9-12 –Sort the animal cards into the correct habitat, or have students name animals from that category given just the habitat as a cue.
Basic Concepts: pages 13-15 - short/tall; skinny/fat; clean/dirty. Use for receptive tasks (i.e. “Show me which one is short.” ) or expressive tasks using carrier phrases to contrast the two images.
Making Predictions: page 16 – Make predictions as you read the story. Fill in the columns as a group or individually. Dry erase markers can be used if this page is laminated.
Compare/contrast: pages 17-18 – Compare and contrast the animals pictured.
Regular Plurals: pages 19 – Eleven cards to target regular plurals. Cut along solid lines only.
Features of animals: pages 20-21 – Using the vocabulary cards, have students answer questions regarding features of animals found in the story. Can they name more animals with these features?
Figurative Language: pages 22-27 – Match the animal idiom with its meaning or have students give meanings independently.
Animal masks: pages 28-30 - Students can wear these to act out the story, practice animal sounds, or put them on Turkey as his “costume” for sequencing.
Barrier Game: pages 31-32 – Print two copies of each page (background and pieces) and use for following directions, giving commands, and a variety of other targets.
