Product Description

"Turkey Trouble" is an adorable Thanksgiving themed book that lends itself well to sequencing, predicting, comprehension, figurative language, and more. Your students will love dressing up the turkey so he avoids becoming Thanksgiving dinner!

Includes:

Board game: page 3

Story mat: page 4-5 — Navigate the story with this mat. Great for sequencing and retelling. One color version and one black-ink only. Use with for markers, chips, mini erasers.

Vocabulary cards: pages 6-7 eleven cards in total, plus cover card.

Comprehension Questions: pages 7-8 – Sixteen cards in total to assess comprehension, plus cover card. Each question has visual choices or a cue.

Categories: pages 10-13 –Sort the animal cards into the correct habitat, or have students name animals from that category given just the habitat as a cue. Do not cut apart sorting mat. 24 animal cards in total.

Basic Concepts: pages 14-16 - short/tall; skinny/fat; clean/dirty. Use for receptive tasks (i.e. “Show me which one is short.” ) or expressive tasks using carrier phrases to contrast the two images. Eight cards per concept pair; cover cards located on page 32.

Making Predictions: page 17 – Make predictions as you read the story. Fill in the columns as a group or individually. Dry erase markers can be used if this page is laminated.

Compare/contrast: pages 18-19 – Compare and contrast the animals pictured. 15 cards in total, plus cover card.

Regular Plurals: pages 20 – Eleven cards to target regular plurals, plus cover card. Cut along solid lines only.

Features of animals: pages 21-22 – Using the vocabulary cards, have students answer questions regarding features of animals found in the story. Can they name more animals with these features? 15 cards in total plus cover card.

Figurative Language: pages 23-28 – Match the animal idiom with its meaning or have students give meanings independently. 36 pairs in total.

Turkey & costumes: pages 29-31 - Students can wear these to act out the story, practice animal sounds, or put them on Turkey as his “costume” while sequencing. the story. Attach a paperclip to each mask and use a magnetic wand/fishing rod to pick up. Or attach all via hook and loop fastener.

Barrier Game: pages 33-34 – Print two copies of each page (background and pieces) and use for following directions, giving commands, and a variety of other targets.

CVC words: page 35-36 - CVC words from the story/thanksgiving/farm theme; 15 cards in total plus cover card.
