Turkey Trouble - sequence events to retell story and make student reader

Grade Levels
K - 3rd

  • PDF

Read the story Turkey Trouble by Wendy Silvano. Explain to the students that they will be creating their own Turkey Trouble book that they can take home to practice retelling the story. Use the attached events page to have students cut and sequence the events in order. I pre-make some little student books out of computer paper. They will use the events to cut and paste them in order, one event per page. After we have glued the events in order as a class, I will allow the students to become the illustrators and draw pictures for each page. While students are drawing the pictures, I provide students with the black and white turkey image. I call them up one at a time and have them pick their turkey disguise. (I pre-make some turkey design pieces and then allow them to be creative and add to it.) The disguised turkey then becomes the cover of their story. After everyone is done, students practice partner reading their story to each other while sharing their disguise.
