Teach, practice, review and assess four-beat so-mi patterns: s-s-m-m, s-m-s-m, s-s-s-m, s-m-s-s, & s-m-m-s. This PowerPoint Slide Show is loaded with eye-catching color and some cute animation when matches are made.
This interactive game uses the memory game or 'concentration' format. It can be used as a classroom game or a music center activity. Students will engage in chanting, tapping/clapping, reading, comparing and contrasting two-beat rhythm combinations.
Instructions (included on first slide): Begin clicking on a turkey to reveal a melody pattern. Sing and sign the pattern. Select another box and sing/sign the second pattern. Compare the pitch patterns. If they are the same, you have made a music match-up, and you earn a point! Write the pattern down. If the patterns aren't the same, click on the turkey or one of the so-mi cards to return to the main page and try again. (Don't let the turkeys trick you even if they look alike.) This game may be played alone, with a friend, or in teams. Remember to sing and sign each pattern. Try to remember the patterns you see and where they are. This will help you make more matches. Once a match is made, it cannot earn points again in the same round. Have fun!
