Here are two quick tasks for you to use to help the children understand the concept of comparing weights. You just need a balance scale, a small stuffed turkey, and the objects shown on the page. For the turkey page, I use a small Ty baby turkey. Any small stuffed turkey would do! Then put the turkey in one bucket and then compare it to the other objects, one at a time. They circle the picture that weighs more. At the bottom of the page, they have to count how many snap cubes it takes to balance the turkey. The apple page follows the same format. Quick and easy and they love using the balance scale. We put it in our math center where they can follow up with objects that they find around the room.
