Your students will have a blast reviewing the quarter/eighth note (ta and ti-ti) combinations in this Thanksgiving themed interactive (pdf) game. Students listen to the pattern (embedded in the file) and help Hank the turkey get to his family's feast by selecting the correct pattern.
There are 18 rhythm patterns (9 in one game and 9 in another) included (in both regular and stick/Kodaly notation) in the game. Two "dictation" worksheets are also included (one with four patterns and one with 6 patterns). Additional audio files are included for both worksheets for you to use as well the answer keys. This is a no-prep game/activity for you!:) You can also choose to clap/play your own patterns for the worksheets.
For those of you who use a Mac, make sure to open the file in Adobe Reader so the hyperlinks and sound files will work.
We actually play this in "groups/tables." Each group (I have 6 groups since there are 12 patterns) gets a chance to earn 2 popsicle sticks (points) if they can choose the correct pattern the first time. If they choose incorrectly, they listen to the pattern again and get a second chance. If they choose correctly the second time they earn 1 stick (point). If they miss it a second time I usually play the sound again, the class class/says the pattern and then I touch the correct pattern to advance the game. No points are given if the team misses the pattern a second time (or sometimes I'll earn the points myself for their mistakes).:)
