PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Turn any task cards into a pretest and posttest, and help your students SEE their growth through a simple graph they create themselves! Perfect for documenting student growth in each subject area throughout the year. This simple pre/posttest method is super helpful for identifying those students that are not making adequate progress and require intervention strategies. Bonus: Need to collect evidence of student learning for your evaluation? This simple tool serves as clear documentation of learning for any standard!

Directions:
1. Pretest: At the start of a new unit, choose any set of task cards that you wish to use as a pre/post test. Have students complete the activity for the first time and answer on the left section of the answer sheet. This section serves as the pretest.
2. Grade Pretest: The teacher (or the students) grades the pretest, marking which answers are correct/incorrect. Write the total answers correct and the total number of questions below the left answer sheet (pretest).
3. Graph: On the center graph, the teacher (or each student) draws a line to show the total number of questions on the pretest. Then, shade in a bar in the “Pre” (pretest) column of the graph to show how many questions were answers correctly.
4. Teach the content based on the needs you see on the pretest.
5. Posttest: Fold back the SCOOT Pre/Post Answer Sheet to hide students’ pretest responses. I fold the pretest twice to totally hide the initial answers (down the center and then again between the graph title and second column of the pretest). Set up the same task cards for students, and have them record their posttest answer on the right side of the answer sheet.
6. Grade Posttest: The teacher (or the students) grades the posttest, marking which answers are correct/incorrect. Write the total answers correct and the total number of questions below the right answer sheet (posttest).
7. Graph: On the center graph, the teacher (or each student) shades in a bar in the “Post” (posttest) column of the graph to show how many questions were answers correctly.
8. Discuss, Reflect, Remediate! Use this information to lead a discussion about student growth and goals, either as a whole group or individual conferences. Use the center graph to quickly determine which students need to be pulled for small group remediation and which students have mastered the content.
