The following five-page study guide film packet is used to accompany the Bahman Ghobadi-directed 2004 drama film, Turtles Can Fly. It can be used in an English or film studies classroom. The first page contains a list of cast and crew and a background and introduction on the film. The second page is a page that allows viewers to jot and take down their own notes. Pages three and four contain comprehension questions to guide the viewer on the work's camera movement, cinematography, costume design, editing, mood, plot, story, style, symbolism, themes, and tone. The fifth page contains discussion questions on the work's acting, characterization, cinematography, setting, sociocultural context, sound, themes, and title significance/symbolism.
Disclaimer: This film is one of the most depressing and shocking ones I have seen and would strongly consider educators evaluate if it is appropriate for his/her students. Research the film's subject matter and plot points before screening the film to plan how to sensitively approach the film's contents with your students.
