The siege of Vicksburg by Union forces in 1863 lasted for 47 days and was one of the most significant Union victories in the war. In this activity, students follow along with the lyrics to a popular Civil War song, "'Twas at the Siege of Vicksburg." They then analyze the song to predict the significance of the siege. This activity can be used as an introduction to the events at Vicksburg.
