This is a holiday freebie, a seasonal sampler if you will. It's also a chance for you to sample my work, as I have two other volumes in this same style, linked below. Read on to find out why you need these in your resource collection of fun and interesting short text for close reading.
Are you looking to expand your collection of short informational text perfect for close reading? Text that you and your students can read and reread in one session? If so, then I think you will love this first volume of articles in a new Informational Text series of mine called Hello 411.
I wrote and designed these informational text articles for my students because I was looking for text that was short, interesting, looked like a real article with real photographs and were good examples of different nonfiction text structures. These articles are ideal for close reading in grades 3-8 or as read-alouds, shared reading or group reading activities in grades K-2.
And, do you have a range of readers in your class? These articles are perfect because every child can read the same article but at *their* level, it's like a differentiated class set of texts because there are normally five articles written (by me) at four different lexile levels ranging from 650L - 1010L. This freebie, includes ONE article written at four different reading levels. The passage topic of THIS freebie is the story of how the most famous Christmas poem came to be, Twas the Night Before Christmas. But, normally, I choose topics that are basically, hot or interesting topics to kids, not time or month sensitive, and crossing boundaries of culture, ethnicity, income, and socioeconomic status. Passage titles are:
*1 Lexile Level Correlation Sheet
*1 Close Reading Summary Page
*1 Text Comparison Chart with Links & QR Codes to YouTube Videos
*1 Short Informational Text Article written at 4 reading levels
*1 Teaching Points Page with Questions
*1 Tiers of Vocabulary Chart per passage
*2 Written Comprehension Organizers per passage
