This product contains 9 worksheets (one page front and back) that include a combination of double-entry journals with an emphasis on character relationships and textual evidence, scene summaries, and guiding questions. When I use these worksheets, I have students form "collegiate study groups" to read the text together and pick out lines that support their understanding of the text. The information can be later used to develop essays around character relationships or as a tool for acting out scenes to better understand what should be emphasized.
The double-entry journal is generally considered a "best practice" for ESL learners. I have used these with my own ESL students and with support they have gone from having little confidence in approaching Shakespeare to total confidence.
The play is divided into sections by the following worksheets:
1) Act 1, Scenes 1 and 2
2) Act 1, Scenes 3 and 4
3) Act 1, Scene 5
4) Act 2, Scenes 1, 2, and 3
5) Act 2, Scenes 4 and 5
6) Act 3, Scenes 1, 2, and 3
7) Act 3, Scene 4
8) Act 4, Scenes 1, 2, and 3
9) Act 5, Scene 1
NOTE: There are no answer keys along with this document. All double-entry journals and most guiding questions have a range of line numbers listed, according to the Folger edition, that correspond to where textual evidence can be found. This gives students the freedom to analyze a variety of lines without having to dig through the entire play. PLEASE look closely at the attached samples before buying to make sure these will work well for your students and your learning goals.
All worksheets are attached in both .doc (for editing) and .pdf (for format).
