Short-response questions are designed to assess Common Core Reading and Language Standards. These questions ask the student to make an inference (a claim, position, or conclusion) based on his or her analysis of the passage, and then provide text-based evidence to support his or her answer. The purpose of the short-response questions is to assess a student’s ability to comprehend and analyze text. This second Twelve Angry Men Short Response asks students to support the opposite side of the argument regarding whether or not the defendant is guilty or not guilty. It is in the form of a graphic organizer with sentence starters in order to provide scaffolding for students who struggle with writing. It also includes a student rubric for the student to self-assess as well as a teacher rubric.
