Interactive school posters offer students a variety of fun and interesting ways to apply their knowledge and insight in some of their classes. The Twelve Days of Vacation Activity poster is geared for high school students with appropriate algebraic and geometric skills, and involves applications of logic.
Because it reflects a holiday theme, the activity should be given just prior to winter/Christmas vacation.
Use the two 8.5" x 11" colored masters to produce enough colored back-to-back copies for a classroom set. It is advisable to have the copies laminated for future use.
The "Twelve Days of Vacation " activity could be used as either an individual or group challenge.
Read to the students who will be participating in this activity the Background and Procedure information that is listed below.
Background: Most students and teachers take advantage of extended vacations to relax and rejuvenate themselves before returning back to school. However, some individuals enjoy academic challenges so much that they include such activities over their vacations. One dedicated teacher gave her students a series of gifts for them to contemplate over twelve days of vacation.
Procedure: For each of the twelve days of challenges, the students are to record their response(s) for each day. When completed, the students should give their responses to the instructor who will determine which students performed admirably for this activity.
To enhance student motivation, a "Winter Enthusiast Award" is included as a black line master.
Note: Day 5 challenge usually requires students to do a small amount of research.
