PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Solomon Northup was a free African American who was kidnapped in his early thirties and sold as a slave. He did eventually regain his freedom, but it took twelve years. Your students will read a primary source excerpt from his book, Twelve Years a Slave, in which he describes the cruel practice of a slave auction. Included is an assignment with text-dependent questions.

This lesson works well during a pre-Civil War (antebellum) unit.
