Product Description
This two digit subtractions worksheet is designed for introducing two digit vertical subtraction WITHOUT trading. Tune the children in by beginning the lesson with vertical addition problems without trading, and put to the children a vertical equation that contains a subtraction sign - ask: What would I do if the sign is no longer an addition sign? Have students come up and have a go, saying what strategies they are using to help solve this equation. This lesson has also been introduced by using whiteboard markers and the children drawing a numberline on their tables e.g. 34-50. Ask students to mark every 2cm (good measurement assessment there!). Students roll a dice and starting at one of their numbers, jump backwards the number rolled. Then writing that equation on the table top. Emphasis that we are using the jumpback strategy. This will he,p students when working out vertical Subtraction. Children love working out the word puzzle and this part alone can be tricky. Don't tell the, straight away how to work out the solution sentence, let them have a go and discuss with people around them-they figure it out. This activity also helps students see how we set out and rule vertical additions.
Extension: Students to write 3 or four digit problems on the back (with or without trading, depending on where they are at).
