Here are two simple and fun songs which can be taught to students to help us celebrate Earth Month in April. The Earth Day Song is to the tune of The Flinstones' theme song, starting with, of course, Yabadabadoo! The other is the LOCO Song (Lights Off, Computers Off) which is to the tune of the popular YMCA song. This song can be taught with actions, making an L, O, C, O with the arms. There is a part of the song, written in French, which can be included to make it bilingual or it can be left out.
You will also find a reproducible sheet to invite the students to make switch-light cover plates, to help remind everyone to turn off the lights and computers when leaving the room. There is a also a colouring reproducible Earth Day sheet for students. In addition, there is a reproducible certificate to prepare and to give to students or classes which show acts of kindness towards the Earth.
In the thumbnails, you can see a photo of two activities to do with the students to help celebrate Earth Month. Students can add their Earth Day Act of kindness, written and illustrated on a green leaf, to the school's Earth Day Tree. With your class, you can build a Garbage Monster (made with a black bag full of garbage) and a Recycle Monster (made with a clear plastic bag full of recyclable materials like milk containers and paper scraps).
Happy Earth Month!
