(1) Set timer in a visable place, such as on and Elmo, along with the Two Minute Tidy Guideline Poster. Set the timer for two minutes.
(2) Choose a student to walk around with card indicating it is Two Minute Tidy time. (This is usually a reward for showing grit, politeness, kindness, helpfulness) and starts the timer. Or, teacher indicates it is Two Minute Tidy Time and starts the timer.
(3) Teacher helps students tidy the classroom during the last two minutes of class. Everyone is responsible for the whole "mess" No one gets to say, "I didn't get that out!" or "He spilled that glue, not me!" Teacher guides and reminds students about where supplies go and to turn in assignments.
(4) Students check out with the teacher by offering a wave, high five, or handshake. This gives the teacher and opportunity to touch base with students on any praises or problems.
See: Students make some sort of mess in the classroom.
Say: Teacher indicates the mess needs to be cleaned. Asks for a single volunteer to clean the entire room. Students usually respond with some sort of unfairness/unequalness plea. Teacher explains the Two Minute Tidy and shows the Two Minute Tidy Guideline Poster. Teacher points out where supplies and assignments go and how to put everything in its place.
Do: Teacher and students tidy classroom using in Two Minutes using the above procedure. Procedure is reviewed as needed throughout the school year. Students eventually get to the point where the timer and the poster on the Elmo are enough indication to start cleaning!
