This is a narrative story about two women who were forced out of their Athabaskan Native American tribe due to their lack of productivity and old age. The story takes place in Alaska during a particularly brutal winter.
The story shows the struggle of the women fighting through the cold, lack of food and their limitations to survive. They learn to use old skills, learn new skills and in surviving the winter provide a new sense of hope to themselves and eventually their old tribe when reunited.
My students and I all loved the story. The presentation can be used to connect with a read aloud or for literature circles. I used this presentation as both. Some of the presentation was used as a whole group with the entire class and other chapters were done with students reading in small groups. The presentation has daily pre reading vocabulary, guided questions, spots for analyzing characters traits and themes.
My hope is that you can just open and use the presentation without having to add any more work to your busy schedule. I don't use an artist so the presentation is without any of the usual TPT artwork. For this reason I've adjusted the price although I do feel it still shares the same academic value.
I hope that you and your students find the presentation of value to your class!
