This lesson includes two possible options for Socratic Seminars based on the novel All Quiet on the Western Front.
The first seminar is meant for the whole class and compares big ideas from the novel and two additional texts: the short story "Soldier's Home" and the song "Over There."
The second seminar is meant for small groups in which students guide the discussion. This one focuses only on the novel and is written so that each student will analyze a different idea in the text. After completing individual analysis, the teacher must group the students so that all group members have analyzed a different topic. This seminar comes with two different possible scoring guides.
