The independent practice included in this download has students match 14 equations with the same answer and color their corresponding boxes the same color (my students love to use color pencils- for anything). It is also a quick check for teachers to visually see if students are on the right track as they walk around the room to help. The partner problems in this download has students work with a partner to solve 8 equations. Partners will know they have the correct answer if they end up with the same answer (my students generally love anything that involves another classmate- plus there ends up being good conversation when students end up with different answers- I make students try to figure out the mistake before I step in) The final activity is a table practice where each student receives 1 of 4 sets of cards. They cut the cards out, solve the equation on the workspace template, and then match the equations with the same answers. There are 36 different two-step equations in this activity and if you wanted to only partner students up, then you could give each student 2 sets (18 problems) to work with. I print these on different colored paper and then laminate and have students cut out (then I can reuse with other classes). I also included a modified version of this activity in case you wanted to do it independently.
Altogether there are 48 two-step equation practice problems with rational numbers included in this download. Any of these activities would be great to use in a whole class environment, in tutoring, in small group, in RTI, or even as homework.
If you need more equation problems that include multi-step, check out this practice.
If you are getting ready to teach inequalities check out this practice.
