In this activity, students solve 5 different two-step equations with equivalent answers, then work together to compare answers. The fifth problem is a word problem, in which students write the equation, then solve.
The equations include negative integers.
Once solved, students partner up and check their answers and complete a reflections page, in which they discuss and describe in words how they set up an equation when given a word problem.
This activity encourages students to collaborate and discuss problems. If students come up with different answers, they can work together to figure out who is correct.
