QR code scavenger hunts get students up and moving around, and using technology which they love. Most of the time they have so much fun that they don’t even realize they’re doing work! They will probably ask you for more QR code scavenger hunts!
Students will need a mobile device (smart phone or tablet) with a QR code scanner/reader.
All problems involve solving two-step equations. There are 2 multiplication with addition, 2 multiplication with subtraction, 2 division with addition, 2 division with subtraction, 1 fraction coefficient with addition, and 1 fraction coefficient with subtraction. All problems involve positive and negative integers.
Students can work individually or with a partner for a cooperative learning activity.
Print out the pages (in color if possible) and hang around the classroom in a random order, creating 10 stations. (If you hang them in the order they are in originally, the students will just be working around the room in order and it will not be a true scavenger hunt.)
Student can start anywhere in the room and scan the QR code in the square at the bottom of the page. It will give them a problem to solve.
Once they get an answer, they must look around the room at the answers in the rectangles at the top of the pages at the other stations to find their answer. They scan the QR code at that station to get their next problem. (This is self-checking — if they do not find their answer, they should recheck their work.)
When they end up at the station they started at, they are done.
