Two-Step Equations (NOT a Scavenger Hunt) QUOTE WALL
All the features you love about a scavenger hunt: Problems are posted around the room and the activity self-checks. Note: It’s not a scavenger hunt. Student pairs solve the 2-step equations in ANY ORDER. All solutions are integers from -6 to 8. Students record the letters from each equation card next to their solution on a specially set-up notebook paper.

While monitoring the room, the teacher-extraordinaire can give timely feedback with only a quick glance at a student’s answer sheet. When finished, students will be surprised to see the letters string together to form a life quote from Dr. Suess. (Because the words are chopped up strategically, students don’t see the message right before their eyes while solving 2-step equations.)
An alternate worksheet for absent or ornery students is included.

The Math: Find 15 two –step equations that are confusingly close (For example: 4x+5=# 4x-5=# 5-4x=#) and have integer solutions.

What makes this product a must-have?
Self-checking: Instead of spending all night grading enjoy your family!
Novel Practice: That traditional practice needs a change now and then.
Life Quote included: An easy way to pull in a character life quote on gratitude.

Half-Sheet 2-Step Equations Practice Guide
Use this half-sheet Practice Guide to help students develop fluency with solving two equations. All 9 equations have the same solution. Therefore, students either know they are right or begin to look critically at their work to identify computational flubs.

What makes this product a must-have?
Self-checking: Immediate feedback received
Multiple Ways to Use: A study guide, a class activity, a way to differentiate – see the teacher guide for more ideas.
Develop fluency: Careless errors and common hang-ups stand-out with practice guides.

2-Step Equations Choose Your Poison
Rigorous 2-step Equations Practice in an atypical worksheet. Each row has three two-step equations of increasing difficulty (see thumbnail). Students choose only 2 problems per row – thus Choose Your Poison. Be surprised as students choose problems that best stretch their current skill level. All answers on a row will match. Matching answers allows students to navigate around common errors in challenging problems and also provides immediate feedback without teacher input. Find a total of 15 equations to be solved.

What makes this product a must-have?
Immediate Feedback: Without raising their hand, students know if they are right or wrong.
Simple Grading: Matching answers speed up the grading process.
Suited to Student Needs: Faced with a mixed-ability class? This worksheet allows the student to choose problems that meet their level.

Teacher tested; student approved.
