This resource has three different ways to teach 18 words needed for a unit on two-step equations, two-step inequalities and writing two-step equations using angle relationships:
Student Centered Word Wall
Research has shown that word walls have helped increase mastery of academic language by explicitly teaching academic vocabulary and providing a quick reference point for both teachers and students to interact with key words and phrases used in the unit.
The most effective word walls include academic vocabulary, a definition and an associated image. To increase student ownership of the word wall a student created image is a best practice. This word wall is designed to create that student buy in.
Explicitly teaching vocabulary in math class greatly improves your students’ math abilities throughout their education and into college. However, due to time constraints many math teachers do not explicitly teach and practice academic language. This resource is designed to both reinforce vocabulary and be used as a grouping exercise.
This activity gets students to stand up and be more actively engaged in the lesson, while using academic vocabulary.
