First day back to school/ summer vacation recount writing activity!
The task is for students to write a recount that includes two events that really did happen, and an event that did not about their summer vacations. Once completed, students share with the class or within a small group and the other students guess which event is a fib.
This is a fun activity to do after the summer break and during the first week of school. My students loved guessing and debating which of their peers' events were true or not true, and justifying their reasoning! It is a stress free and engaging task for students. I have included a very simple assessment checklist for teachers to take note during this activity of what students are able to do upon their return to school, and things that they still need to work on.
This package includes:
1) The assignment description
2) Success criteria
3) Brainstorming page
4) Graphic organizer
5) Lined page for good copy
6) A checklist based on the success criteria to do a quick assessment of your students' writing
